Asian Football Talents Enjoy Experience at QPR’s Training Ground

LONDON, WOL – Eight standout young football talents hand-picked by Queens Park Rangers’ (QPR) in the Community Trust coaches during the AirAsia-QPR Coaching Clinic Tour held last year throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and China are currently at Loftus Road in London.

Those talents are part of AirAsia’s continuous effort to empower youth through sports. The eight football talents selected from a total of 223 youth across the region were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to train at QPR’s Academy, meet the QPR first team as well as witness a live match between QPR and Derby County FC at Loftus Road Stadium.

AirAsia is the official shirt sponsor for QPR, and has been actively conducting outreach programs such as this football coaching clinic across the region to inspire and unearth local Asian football talents at the grassroots level, and to give back to the community it serves.

“It is important for us to continue our efforts in empowering youth through sports. Asia is filled with so many talented young footballers, and all they need is the opportunity to shine. AirAsia is very happy to be part of their journey and in helping to inspire them to reach for their dreams. We would like to thank QPR in the Community Trust for their hard work and commitment in carrying out the coaching clinics across Asia, and we are sure that the over 200 participants from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and China have benefited greatly through this initiative,” said Aireen Omar, CEO of AirAsia Berhad, Friday (4/3).

“We’re delighted to welcome the winners to QPR. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to see what life in London and at a professional football club is all about. It gives us great pleasure to be working with AirAsia once again, who we thank for their continued support. Both QPR and AirAsia are passionate about developing young talent and it’s brilliant that we can come together in this way,” said Andy Evans, CEO of QPR in the Community Trust.

“This is the programme’s third year and every year has been even bigger and better than before. Our coaches are still talking about their trip to Asia in December, and now it’s our turn to give the boys a once-in-a-lifetime experience they’ll never forget,” added Evans.

The AirAsia-QPR Coaching Clinic Tour is a joint effort by AirAsia and QPR in the Community Trust which started in 2013, and has benefited nearly 1,000 youth across Asia; providing the young athletes with opportunities to learn from coaches linked to an English Championship club. The 2015 coaching clinic tour was led by QPR in the Community Trust’s Camp Director, Martino Chevannes; along with four other QPR coaches – Danny Edwards, Alfie Ferguson, Alex Gordon and Stephen McCarthy.(wol/aa/airasia)
