DPRD installs new-airport project watch at Kuala Namu

MEDAN, N SUMATRA - Regional House Representatives or DPRD based in North Sumatra reportedly plans installing a special committee. It will supervisee new International-class airport at Kuala Namu, Deli Serdang district.

"The project watch committee installment in line with our efforts to tackle four crucials matters at Kuala Namu," a lawmaker explained.

DPRD deputy Speaker Chaidir Ritonga said Tuesday land clearance and runway construction are two among four problems.

"Runway, in particular, takes our most attention as we schedule to finish 18 months after the project started on January 2011," he said.

Chaidir added, infrastructure building and power generator installment are listed by the watch committee.

"These problems must be tackled as soon as possible, so new airport at Kuala Namu can be operated next year," Golkar party politician said, name for the new airport will be discussed discussed after the four problems finished.

Government is under pressured to speed up airport construction project at Kuala Namu. Recent International-class airport at Medan, Polonia, is criticized for lack of service quality and poor security.

As the new airport work accomplished, rumor says Polonia is soon changed become central business district in Medan, North Sumatra.
